KONINGS WELCOMES BNP PARIBAS FORTIS AS A MINORITY SHAREHOLDER

BNP Paribas Fortis Private Equity is set to acquire a minority interest in Konings NV. This co-packer and independent beverage producer is based in Zonhoven, Belgium. It focuses on the creation, production and filling of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in glass bottles, cans, PET and Tetra Pak packaging. Konings works exclusively for third parties, primarily major beverage brands. No further financial details are announced.

"We were looking for an experienced, reliable long-term partner to support us financially, so that we can continue to pursue our sustainable growth ambitions on an international scale. It was also essential for us to be able to keep working with the current management team on an operational level," states Dirk Maris, one of four current Konings shareholders. "We are convinced we have found the right partner in BNP Paribas Fortis Private Equity. It has all the right expertise to help us to achieve our long-term goals."

Konings is the fifth promising company BNP Paribas Fortis Private Equity is investing in this year. Raf Moons, Head of BNP Paribas Fortis Private Equity: "Konings has all the characteristics of a strong company. It has a phenomenal track record of profitable growth, sound management and excellent growth prospects. Konings responds very well to new trends in the beverage world. Our belief in the company is reflected in our significant investment, which will allow Konings to achieve its expansion plans in a sustainable way. This is fully in line with BNP Paribas Fortis Private Equity’s mission to help Belgian companies with their strategy and business plan."

Konings is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The company initially produced Dutch gin, followed by cider and fruit juices. The relationship between Konings and BNP Paribas Fortis started in 2007. At this time, Konings was taken over by Jos Rutten, Dirk Maris, Luc Nulens and Jef Moors in a management buy-out. The bank helped with the management buy-out and in the following years supported the expansion plans of the Limburg-based company. Konings has now become a leading player in the international beverage industry.
