Julien De Wit and Victor Dillard awarded Pioneer and Entrepreneur of the Year by MIT Technology Review

  • MIT Technology Review honored yesterday the 35 European winners of its first regional edition of Innovators Under 35. ​ ​ ​ ​

     

  • Among this year’s laureates, the world’s oldest technology magazine also recognized the most influential innovator in each of the following 5 categories: entrepreneurs, inventors visionaries, pioneers and humanitarians with a special mention. ​ ​ ​ ​

     

  • These special mentions were awarded to: Victor Dillard (Belgium), Solveiga Pakštaitė (Lithuania), Enass Abo-Hamed (United Kingdom), Julien De Wit (Belgium) and Thibault Duchemin (France)

Paris, September 15 th , 2017 .- MIT Technology Review, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's prestigious magazine, presented yesterday the 35 laureates of its first regional edition of the Innovators Under 35 Europe competition. The awards ceremony, celebrated at Station F, in Paris, was the culmination of a year of search, evaluation and selection of the best 35 innovators among more than 1,100 European candidates thanks to the support of BNP Paribas and L’Atelier BNP Paribas, Partners of the project.

During the Summit Europe 2017, laureates presented their projects in roundtable discussions moderated by former competition winners . Among them, 5 young innovators received special mentions as Inventor, Entrepreneur, Visionary, Humanitarian and Pioneer of the Year for being the most influential young leaders in each of these categories according to the jury panel comprised by 165 business, science and and technology experts.

The COO and CFO at Desktop Genetics, Victor Dillard (Belgium), was awarded the special mention of Entrepreneur of the Year , thanks to his novel platform which enables the design and production of personalized, safe and effective genome editing therapies.

The CEO at Mimica Lab, Solveiga Pakštaitė (Lithuania), was recognised as Inventor of the Year for her bio-reactive, tactile expiry label that can be used by people with visual impairments and helps to reduce food waste by indicating when food products will actually go bad. Enass Abo- Hamed (United Kingdom) was named Visionary of the Year for the development of smart nanomaterials which enable hydrogen storage and on-demand electricity production from renewable sources.

Julien De Wit (Belgium) was selected as Pioneer of the Year for his novel techniques designed to identify and study potentially habitable planets orbiting stars other than our own Sun.

And, finally, Humanitarian of the Year was awarded to Thibault Duchemin, the founder and CEO of AVA, a mobile application that fosters social and professional integration for the hearing disabled by allowing the deaf and hearing-impaired to follow what is being said around them in real-time.
