BNP Paribas Fortis: 300 million euros extra for long-term finance for SMEs

Prompted by the Banking Plan of Kris Peeters, Minister-President of the Flemish Government, BNP Paribas Fortis has released 300 million euros for long-term loans to finance the industrial investment projects of SMEs.
Small and medium-sized enterprises form the heart of our economy and it is important that they continue to develop further. This is something that cannot be taken for granted in the present economic climate.
The Belgian economy grew by a mere 0.5% in the 2008-2013 period, while total business investment contracted by 8% in volume over the same period. And last year, business investment showed only minimal positive growth of 0.1%.
In these circumstances, the businesses have a patent need for extra support in order to still be able to carry out their investment projects. BNP Paribas Fortis will therefore provide SMEs with additional long-term investment loans. The term of these loans can correspond to the economic life of the investment project, with a minimum term of five years.
