BNP Paribas Fortis named Bank of the Year – Belgium by The Banker and Best Transaction Bank in Belgium by Euromoney

BNP Paribas Fortis was awarded the ‘Bank of the Year – Belgium’ trophy at a ceremony organised by Financial Times’s The Banker magazine in London yesterday. It marks the third consecutive year that BNP Paribas Fortis has received this prize from analysts and journalists of the Financial Times, highlighting the ability of the bank to deliver consistently across the full spectrum of its clients’ needs.

BNP Paribas Fortis impressed the judges with its practical use of AI, from its Large Language Model assistant to prompt-training programmes. Combined with the start of the rollout of the new Easy Banking Employees platform for customer relationship management during the bpost bank integration in 2024, the bank showed how technology can support staff and improve service for customers,” says Silvia Pavoni, editor in chief of The Banker.

Michael Anseeuw, CEO of BNP Paribas Fortis added: “I’m very pleased that we have again been named ‘Bank of the Year’ in Belgium. An enduring aspect of our approach regarding our customers is our focus on ensuring that our services are accessible to customers through technology. This is evidenced by our retail activities, where we have now surpassed three million active digital clients. At the same time, we are strengthening our position as a leading corporate bank and we continue to set the standard for private banking1 in our Belgian market. The increase in our Net Promoter Scores across all segments shows that our customers appreciate our efforts.

The quality of the banking services of BNP Paribas Fortis was again recognised in November when BNP Paribas Fortis was named ‘Best Transaction Bank in Belgium’ by Euromoney. Transaction banking includes cash management, trade finance, factoring, fixed income activities and Axepta. In Belgium, BNP Paribas Fortis is the leading player in transaction banking, with a market share of over 25% in most segments2.

Stéphane Vermeire, Head of Corporate Banking of BNP Paribas Fortis said: “I’m delighted that Euromoney has named us Best Transaction Bank in Belgium. This confirms the quality of the transaction banking services we provide to meet the day-to-day needs of our merchant and corporate clients in Belgium. Those services include helping clients to manage liquidity and the associated risks, secure and finance their international trade, and manage their working capital in the most efficient way.
Head of Transaction Banking of BNP Paribas Fortis Frédéric Fontaine added: “We are continuing to improve our Transaction Banking offering by optimising customer journeys and processes. This award illustrates the strength of our transaction banking model, which combines digitalisation, dedicated advisors and partnerships with the fintech ecosystem, for the benefit of our clients.”
